Description

The Boston Pizza Jr. Triathlon is a Kids of Steel sanctioned triathlon.  The BP Jr. Triathlon takes place at the northwest corner of Lakeshore Drive, in Penticton.  The distances for the swim, bike and run vary, depending on the age of the competitor, per Kids of Steel regulations.

The event is open to individual competitors, who will "transition" from one activity to the next, in a transition area, which will also be near the Finish area, in the grass to the west of the SS Sicamous paddlewheel museum.

The start of the swim is on Okanagan Beach, at varying distances away from the SS Sicamous.  The swim finishes at the beach west of the SS Sicamous, with the competitor running to bike transition.

Competitors will run with their bike to the northwest curve of Lakeshore Drive, before the traffic roundabout, mounting their bike as they cross the "Mount" line entering onto Lakeshore Drive. They'll follow the roundabout onto Lakeshore Drive, heading east. Depending on the age of the competitor, a number of laps of Lakeshore Drive and around the roundabout will take place before the competitor can enter transition.  It is "IMPORTANT" for the competitor to be aware of the number of laps that are required for their age group.  One the required number of laps are completed, the competitor will dismount off Lakeshore Drive, and run/walk with their bike into transition.  Helmets and helmet straps must remain on and done up until your bike is back on the bike rack.

After dismounting their bikes, competitors willl run out of transition, and onto the run course along the rose garden, heading south along the trail beside the channel towards Coyote Cruises, and back along the marked path past the parking lot by Loco Landing.

In order to safely run this event, there will be a need for lane closures on western part of Lakeshore Drive between 6am and 12pm. Race officials with Stop/Slow paddles control this, as required.

Officials will also be placed on all intersections along the bike and run course, to warn traffic of the race-in-progress and to direct athletes if necessary. The run course will be marked with orange traffic cones and athletes will receive a full course description, prior to race start.
